Research work

Had a research work and submitted a report on,

“Investigation on effective bracing system for buildings with soft ground story under seismic loading using Csi ETABS”, ---

The thesis treats effective bracing for building with open ground storey under seismic loading in Bangladesh and many other countries. Although these ground stories are useful for car parking, storage facilities and other commercial purposes, the performance of these buildings are very poor under seismic loading. Open ground story is less stiff than the upper ground stories with masonry infill walls. As a result it experiences more deflection as well as larger force. Recent earthquake in neighboring countries has proved the potential of the threat. The present design code, BNBC (Bangladesh National Building Code) does not have special design consideration for this phenomenon. This thesis paper aims at proposing an effective bracing system in the open ground story to mitigate large deflection and lessen force demand. In this regard, five different cases of bracing system for a typical six storied building are analyzed. The cases considered are as follows, Case 1:- Steel cross bracing at the peripheral columns., Case 2:- Steel single bracing at the peripheral columns, Case 3:-Steel cross bracing at the alternate peripheral columns , Case 4:- Steel cross bracing in all alternate panels, Case 5:-Steel vertical columns in the peripheral panels. The five types of bracing systems are applied to four separate buildings with different span lengths. Three dimensional (3D) reinforced concrete frames are modeled by finite element software, ETABS under design load following Building code. Masonry infill is modeled as equivalent diagonal truss. Steel bracing elements are modeled as truss element. Frames are then analyzed under lateral earthquake load provided by ETABS following UBC94 which shows equivalent result with BNBC. Story displacement and force demand (Moment and Shear) for these systems are compared with those from open story system.

ü Obtained an associate membership of The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) (Membership no.: AM/10103).

ü Completed a training course on “Introduction to Building Construction Regulations and Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC)” held from 19 – 23 July 2009 with a total duration of 15 hours.

ü Completed a training course on “Computer Aided Analysis and Design of Buildings, Foundation and Slab using ETABS and SAFE software together” held from 26 June – 31 July with a total duration of 48 hours.

ü Completed a training course on “Computer Aided Analysis and Design of Civil Engineering Structures using STAAD.Pro Software” held from 10 – 14 August 2009 with a total duration of 30 hours.

My name is Mohd. Ziaul Badr. I have recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh. I have obtained training in Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit Structure. I am very interested to work in jobs involving CAD using Revit Structure. I am also able to do other Civil Engineering jobs as well.
